Barcelona, February 6, 2024.- The pharmaceutical laboratory Ferrer has been recognized for its leadership in corporate transparency, sustainability performance and action against climate change by the international environmental data disclosure organization, CDP. Specifically, Ferrer has managed to be placed on the "A List" prepared annually by this non-profit entity, thanks to its good practices in the management and measurement of the climate and environmental impact of its activity.

Ferrer's ranking has been based on the data reported through CDP's Climate Change 2023 questionnaire, placing it in the small group of companies that have obtained an 'A', among the more than 21,000 companies analysed.

Bea Vila, Chief People & Sustainability Officer at Ferrer, said: "At Ferrer, we believe that our activity as a pharmaceutical company should create more environmental value than it consumes. This recognition is the result of our commitment to mitigate climate change through actions focused on protecting the planet, included in one of the central axes of our company's strategy. Thanks to our collaboration with CDP, we are also making progress in our promise to measure and explain our positive impact in terms of sustainability with the utmost rigor," he added.

Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP, also congratulated all the companies on CDP's List A, and the companies that started or accelerated their path to environmental transparency in 2023. "Last year we saw a 24% increase in disclosures and that trajectory is worthy of applause. Only by laying the foundations for disclosure will companies be able to demonstrate that they are serious about the vital role they play in achieving a net-zero and nature-positive future," he explained.

Reducing emissions and committing to the climate transition at Ferrer

Among the actions within its Liveable Planet axis, Ferrer is promoting the reduction of its corporate carbon footprint, with the aim of reducing its direct emissions by 50% and its indirect emissions by 27% by 2030. Since 2019, Ferrer's global carbon footprint has been reduced by 10% in line with the provisions of the Science Based Targets (SBTi) reduction targets. The company also works with 100% electricity from renewable sources, avoiding the emission of 7,500 tonnes of CO2 each year.

In addition, it has recently worked on the development of a Climate Transition Plan with the aim of aligning the business strategy with the decarbonization objectives acquired through the SBTi for the year 2030. It is a project that will allow, among other things, to assess in an objective and comparable way the return on an investment taking into account energy efficiency, CO2 emissions and other environmental variables of great value for decision-making, facilitating the transition to business models with lower carbon emissions.

In this regard, Ferrer is also working to decarbonise the impact of the value chain, which accounts for more than 80% of the total impact, and which will be key to achieving the objectives set. For this reason, the company works closely with its entire value chain to contribute to the creation of a future with net zero emissions. In addition, one of the most innovative initiatives that Ferrer is working on is the development of an internal carbon pricing system, which he hopes to implement throughout 2024. The main objective of this tool is to have a fundamental instrument for decision-making at Ferrer, by considering the impacts, risks and opportunities related to climate change through the setting of this price for each ton of CO2 emitted.
