Panama, October 23, 2022 - With the participation of more than 350 medical specialists from Latin American countries such as Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina, the 2nd Ferrer Latam Summit was held in Panama, where experts addressed the main challenges that exist in the field of health in the region.
The meeting, organized by the international pharmaceutical company Ferrer, provided a significant opportunity for these professionals to obtain an integrated vision of the latest advances in cardiology, vascular and interstitial lung diseases , neurology and gastroenterology, areas in which the laboratory is focused.
For two days, the specialists had the opportunity to attend scientific updates on these four therapeutic areas, including the presentation of the results of the SECURE Study – recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) – by Dr. Jose María Castellano, scientific director of the HM Hospitales Research Foundation and first author of the publication.
In it, the specialist cardiologist explained all the details of how the polypill, developed by the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) and Ferrer, is effective in the prevention of cardiovascular events after a heart attack, reducing mortality from cardiovascular causes by 33% . According to the researcher, "the results of SECURE reveal, for the first time, that the polypill containing aspirin, atorvastatin and ramipril achieves clinically relevant reductions in recurrent cardiovascular events in patients who have suffered a myocardial infarction."
For his part, David Martorell, LatAm Region Director of Ferrer, highlighted how the company "has the mission of providing significant and differential value to people suffering from serious ailments, which is why a portfolio of innovative products capable of transforming the lives of patients has been defined, often treating pathologies lacking appropriate or authorized treatments". Beyond the scientific presentations, the meeting sought to generate a positive impact on society, so information was shared with the attendees about the "For Good" activities carried out by Ferrer in the territory. Specifically, Ferrer collaborates with the Offer a Home Foundation. In an emotional ceremony held on Friday night, Ferrer presented a donation of $5,000 to the entity, as well as medical equipment and the acquisition of toys and cleaning materials.

A 100% sustainable event
In line with Ferrer's mission to protect the environment for our own good and that of future generations, the event was carried out taking into account the highest sustainability criteria, offsetting the sum of theCO2 emissions generated by travel ̧ energy consumption, accommodation, food consumed and materials produced.
In total, 106 tonnes ofCO2 were offset by participating in the VCS Peralta Wind environmental project, an initiative to develop and operate an onshore wind farm located 280 km north of Montevideo, in Uruguay, which contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. replacing fossil fuel power generation with wind power.
On the other hand, with the aim of continuing to generate a positive impact on society and to raise awareness among those attending the Summit of the importance of protecting our planet, Ferrer showed the attendees the forest of the Latam Summit where Ferrer has symbolically planted as many trees as attendees, to raise awareness of sustainability. With this Treedom project with which Ferrer collaborates, more than 3 million trees have already been planted so far in Africa, South America and Asia.
