Our history in the U.S.
Ferrer US, (legally Alexza Pharmaceuticals) was founded in the San Francisco Bay area in 2000, with the proprietary and innovative Staccato technology. One of Alexza’s founders was Dr. Alejandro Zaffaroni, pioneer of drug delivery technologies and founder of numerous San Francisco Bay Area companies.
After development of a successful pipeline, Alexza completed an IPO in early 2006. Alexza’s first commercial product, Adasuve based on the Staccato platform was launched in 2012 in the US and EU. Alexza Pharmaceuticals was acquired by Ferrer in June 2016.
Ferrer US is focused on the research and development of novel, proprietary products for the acute treatment of underserved medical needs, in the therapeutic areas of neurodegenerative disorders and pulmonary and interstitial lung disease.
We develop products with rapid onset of effect, ease of use, non-invasive administration, and dosage titration based on the Staccato technology platform.
Developing novel therapeutic treatments
Ferrer US is focused on the research, development, and commercialization of novel, proprietary products for the acute treatment of medical conditions. Ferrer's products and development pipeline are based on the Staccato® One Breath Technology™ – OBT™ system, a handheld inhaler designed to deliver a pure drug aerosol to the deep lung, providing rapid systemic delivery and therapeutic onset in a simple, non-invasive manner.
Two programs in Ferrer’s current pipeline are based on Staccato technology.

Employees accrue 4 weeks of paid time off per year during the first 4 years with Ferrer U.S. Starting with the 5th year, employees accrue 5 weeks.
Ferrer U.S. offers 13 paid holidays per year, which includes a company shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Ferrer U.S. offers a choice of several medical insurance plans for our employees including their spouse/domestic partner and dependent(s). All medical plans include prescription drug benefits. For medical coverage we offer PPO and HSA plans along with a Kaiser HMO plan. We also offer a Dental Plan (including orthodontia), and a Vision Plan. Alexza pays the majority of premiums for insurance coverage.
The Employee Assistance Program allows employees to access the services of licensed professional counselors, legal referral services, financial advisors, nurse-line services and much more. All services are confidential, free and easy to use. It is also available to employees and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Ferrer U.S. offers short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), life insurance (2X your salary to a maximum of $600,000) and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurances.
Ferrer U.S. offers a 401(k) plan through Fidelity with a variety of fund choices and allows its employees to contribute pre-tax and post-tax dollars through convenient payroll deductions. Ferrer U.S. also provides a discretionary match, which vests over a 3-year period, based on years employed.
Ferrer U.S. offers a Flexible Spending Account plan that allows employees to set aside a portion of their salary on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified medical and dependent care expenses.
Ferrer U.S. offers a Lifestyle Spending Account that is funded by Ferrer US and is aimed to promote employee physical and mental wellbeing.

Ferrer US is centrally located in Fremont, CA, in the southeastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The city is surrounded by a diverse landscape that includes the San Francisco Bay to the west and the Diablo Range of the Santa Clara Valley to the east.
Fremont is known for its natural beauty and is home to several parks and recreational areas, including Mission Peak Regional Preserve and Coyote Hills Regional Park. The city is served by major transportation routes making it a significant hub in Silicon Valley.
